Useful apps for your trip

Downloading the right apps before you travel will make your trip to Gothenburg significantly smoother. Most are available in English and work with international payment methods. Download and set them up before you board your flight, so you're ready to go the moment you land.

Västtrafik To Go

The official app for Gothenburg's public transport. Buy tickets, check real-time tram and bus departures and plan routes across the region. Essential for getting to and from Åby Arena.

Uber

Widely used in Gothenburg for on-demand rides. Reliable, cashless and available 24/7. Useful for late-night returns from the festival when trams have stopped running.

Bolt

A popular European ride-hailing alternative to Uber, often with competitive prices in Gothenburg. Worth having both apps to compare availability and pricing.

Google Maps

Indispensable for walking directions, finding restaurants and exploring the city. Works offline if you download the Gothenburg map area before your trip.

Flygbussarna

The airport coach between Landvetter Airport and Gothenburg city centre. Buy tickets in advance in the app for the best prices and guaranteed seats.

SJ

Swedish State Railways — book train tickets across Sweden. Useful if you're arriving by rail from Stockholm, Copenhagen or other cities.

FlixBus

Affordable long-distance bus connections across Europe. A budget-friendly option from nearby countries such as Denmark, Germany or Norway.

Getting around

Local transport guide

Gothenburg has an efficient and user-friendly public transport system operated by Västtrafik. The network covers the whole city and the surrounding region, making it easy to reach Åby Arena from any neighbourhood.

Getting to Åby Arena

Take the commuter train from Gothenburg Central to Mölndal (8 minutes), then bus 753 to Åby Arenastad (7 minutes). Bus 753 also runs straight from Heden and Vasaplatsen in the city centre.

Trams

Gothenburg's tram network is one of the most extensive in Scandinavia and the backbone of travel in the city. Trams run frequently during the day and less often in the evening; the last trams typically leave around midnight on weekdays and later at weekends.

Buses

Bus routes connect the residential areas and suburbs not reached by tram. Stops are clearly marked and timetables are in the Västtrafik app. After the parties, bus 753 leaves Åby Arenastad about every 30 minutes on Saturday and Sunday mornings — to Mölndal station for the commuter train, or straight to Heden in the city centre.

Tickets & pricing

Buy tickets in the Västtrafik To Go app or at ticket machines at major stops — cashless only. Single tickets are valid for 90 minutes with unlimited transfers. Day passes are excellent value if you plan several journeys.

Good to know

Useful travel tips

Sweden is one of the most traveller-friendly countries in the world, but a few things are worth knowing before you arrive. From payments and weather to what to pack for the festival, these tips will help you feel prepared from the moment you land.

Cashless society

Sweden is almost entirely cashless. Card payments (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted everywhere — restaurants, shops, public transport, even market stalls. You rarely need cash. Tell your bank you're travelling to avoid card blocks.

Tap water

Tap water in Gothenburg is safe, clean and delicious. No need to buy bottled water — bring a reusable bottle and fill up anywhere. Restaurants will happily give you tap water for free.

Electrical plugs

Sweden uses Type C and Type F plugs (two round pins, 230 V). Travelling from the UK? You'll need an adapter. Most hotels have USB ports, but bring your own adapter.

Weather in November

November in Gothenburg is cold and often overcast, usually 2–7 °C. Rain is common and the days are short (sunset around 16:10 on the festival weekend). Pack accordingly — layers are your best friend.

What to pack for La Luna

Comfortable dance shoes are essential — you'll be on your feet for hours. Pack warm layers, a waterproof jacket, thick socks and a small cross-body bag. The venue is well heated, so wear layers you can take off easily.

Ready to go

Final checklist before travelling

Use this checklist to make sure you're fully prepared before you travel. Tick off each item as you go — a little preparation goes a long way towards a stress-free and unforgettable La Luna Festival.

  • Flight booked

Confirm your flight to Göteborg Landvetter (GOT) — or one of the alternatives in the Before the festival guide. Check your baggage allowance and download your boarding pass.

  • Accommodation booked

Book the official festival hotel, a BachaBnB, or a place in Åby, Åby Arenastad or Mölndal. Confirm the check-in details and save the address in Google Maps.

  • Festival pass purchased

Buy your La Luna Festival pass in advance. Save the e-ticket on your phone and take a screenshot as a backup in case of poor signal at the venue.

  • Airport transfer planned

Download the Flygbussarna app and pre-book your airport coach, or plan your Uber/Bolt transfer. Know your route before you land.

  • Dance shoes packed

Pack comfortable, broken-in dance shoes with good support. Your feet will thank you after hours on the dance floor. Consider a spare pair.

  • Warm clothes packed

November in Gothenburg is cold. Pack thermal layers, a waterproof jacket, warm socks, gloves and a scarf for any time you're outdoors.

You're all set for an unforgettable La Luna Festival! Gothenburg is a welcoming, beautiful city — embrace the music, the culture and the Scandinavian warmth.

See you on the dance floor. 🌙
